I received a Creative Zen (2gb) today for my birthday.
When I first took it out of the box, I hit the power switch and was able to navigate the menus and listen to the default audio samples. I then installed the software and plugged it into the USB in the back of my computer.
All Creative software tells me "Device not connected" or "No device found".
There is no mention of "other devices" or MP3 anything whatsoever in device manager.
The unit will  not power up at all now. No matter what I do, I cannot get any lights or anything.
The computer will not recognize this device in any USB port
I have WinXP SP3 + WMP 11
MyZenChecker (for whatever good thats supposed to do) says I dont have SP2
USB ports are functional - all other devices work perfectly
Windows will not see the player AT ALL
Creative has no technical support phone? what a joke
There thousands of pages of people reporting this same issue on these forums
there are no answers unless they are buried on page 592
Im extremely pissed
Ive spent the last 5 hours trying to get this to work
When I first opened the box the unit powered and played until I plugged it in
It no longer responds to anything
5 hours of the unit connected to USB and still no charge whatsoever
It had a charge before I plugged it in, what happened that it is now so dead that it will not even attempt to charge itself?
Why does Creative not have an answer for this?

I was able to get this to work.

I had to press and hold the reset button with a safety pin and play with the power switch while jamming random buttons on the front. It then came to life again and was picked up instantly by the PC.

That left a real bad taste in my mouth for this product, having wasted near 7 hours of my day on my birthday no less. It needs to really impress me now or it's getting swapped for a Zune.
