I have had my Zen V 4GB for around 2 months, had a few little problems with it, but nothing major.

I removed he firmware on the unit throught the recovery console (hold play whilst powering up). Since I have done this, I am unable to re-install the firmware on to the unit. I have tried all that creative have to offer. Seriously wish I hadn't.

Windows detects and installs the deivce, WM player detects the device. The problem is with all of creatives software. The firmware updater cannot see the device, neither can the automated recovery software, neither can the creative zen explorer software.

At the moment the device is showing 31MB as available space (I beleive this to be the players internal memory).

I have tried downgrading  WM player, changing USB permissions, clean booting the machine, so far none of these have worked.

Does anyone have any other ideas, as I will return this unit back to creative if I have no luck when I return home in 2 weeks.

I am currently working away, and am completely at a miss with out it.

Thanks.

Dean.

ya, can understand how you feel without your daily dose of music..
have you tried to update firmware using creative mp3 recovery tool? http://www.mycreativefansite.com/2007/09/creative-zen-mp3-player-recovery-tool.html

your zen should show you only 31mb, i suggest you format your zen, however, this will erase all your content Sad

Already tried that, to no avail.

I have already formatted, and reformatted. The unit is just stuck in recovery mode, and I cannot get any creative software connect to it. No matter what I try.

Any other ideas?

Hi, I had the same problem. After a lot of testing (even on other computers) I realized, that I have another player than I thought. I thought I have a "ZEN V" but it's a "ZEN V (Video)" and needs another firmware...
After I downloaded the correct one, the firmware upload worked like a charm. Hope this helps for you too.

And there's a third one: the ZEN V (Video)
... without Plus which plays videos but has no radio
Even the creative site doesn't have it on the product page but it's listed on the bottom of the support page.

Not sure if this is the problem but there is a documented issue with WMP11 and Creative Firmware update:
