Also, I wanted to thank you for this site. I was one of those people who couldn't get their Windows to recognize the Zen, so i trouble shot and was completely satisfied. Thanks again.

Ah, Finally fixed it ran clean up several times rebooting each time now lists in the creative software WMP10. All I can think of is maybe the drive became so fragmented.
Thanks for the input and Great site!

The title of the post goes right to it. On my old XP machine, manual (copy/paste) file transfers were a breeze. Vista...not so much. It will transfer some files, then tell me 'Filename could not be placed on the device. You do not have permission to create this item' on others.  That sounds like a Vista security/permissions issue to me, rather than one with the player itself. Any help would be appreciated. And yes, I did install the software on the disc, not that that helps.

Edit - At first it allowed me to copy a few files, but now it won't copy any at all, from anywhere  (local or external drives), giving me the same message as above.

I did, and I do. I've only had this computer for a week or two; it's taken me a bit to iron out the security bugs, so it'll let me do what I want; perhaps I haven't gotten them all.

Edit - Ok well...I was poking around on the 'net, working under the assumption that my problem was one concerning Vista and permissions, rather than the Zen and any software issues related to it. I found this, quote unquote on a Vista troubleshooting forum.

www.techsupportforum.com

'Hi, security in Vista is different to XP In XP when you logged on and created an account with Admin credentials you were the administrator. In Vista at install a new account is created (usually you) and that account is given Admin priveldges. Problem is UAC still activates because this "Admin" account is really only a limited "Admin" account. So if you are installing a program it is best to right click on that programs executable and select "run as administrator", particularly if you have disabled UAC.

Now you can access the true "Admin" account in Vista (hidden by design) Go to start all programs accessories and right click on "command prompt" select "run as administrator" Two commands one on, the other off...run the one you want reboot to take effect.

Code:

Net user administrator /active:yes
Net user administrator /active:no'

I tried it, and it let me work, once I switched over to the 'true' Admin account, without offering any protests from the UAC or anything else. When I logged back over, I had other troubles, but that's neither here nor there, since it doesn't relate to the MP3 player. It made me think that perhaps, while I was 'named' as an admin for the computer, I wasn't really one. I'm not sure. I just know it was annoying having to do that; and has more to do with how the OS was set up than anything.

Edit #2 - Well, I turned off the UAC, and that seemed to do the trick. I still can't rename the folders once on the player, like I could in the above-mentioned secret admin account, but c'est la vie. Unless something happens and this crops back up, I think this is the end of this post. Thanks for your time, Jimmy.

With a Quick-Reply you can use bulletin board code and smileys as you would in a normal post, but much more conveniently.
