Also, I wanted to thank you for this site. I was one of those people who couldn't get their Windows to recognize the Zen, so i trouble shot and was completely satisfied. Thanks again.

Ah, Finally fixed it ran clean up several times rebooting each time now lists in the creative software WMP10. All I can think of is maybe the drive became so fragmented.
Thanks for the input and Great site!

Hey everybody,

I'm sure there are plenty of similar threads about this issue, however I haven't seen any with Windows 7 as OS.

My problem is definitely in the recognition of the driver, since the MTP device is not working properly. I've tried alot of possible solutions, but none of them have worked, i.e the removal of the driver in device manager, tried a custom script for the inf file, deleting of all USB/portable related drivers. Its sad that no recovery tools are yet compatible with Windows 7, atleast not that I'm aware of.

Please, throw some more suggestions/ideas!

My Zen works perfectly fine under XP btw.

I was having the same problem with my Zen Vision:M under Win7 Ultimate 64-bit.
No matter what I tried from deleting the usb root hubs and reinstalling drivers, nothing would get the mtp usb device driver to load.

I found that the mtp usb device driver will load correctly as long as you are plugging the USB cable into a direct port and not running it through a USB hub.  At first I thought it might be due to an incorrect USB voltage, but the hub I'm using is a powered Belkin hub.  Very strange!

So give that a shot -- run the USB straight to a port out the back of your computer.  Don't use a USB hub or ports off your monitor since that is actually a hub as well.

Good luck!   Grin

Doesn't work for me. Still I get 'Driver not installed'. I checked with all USB ports on my laptop - but nothing works. There must be a way - I know there must be!

Hi similar problems. Creative Zen M. Windows 7 new laptop. Device manager keeps telling me device wont start. The Zen charges away and says its docked. Creative Media Player tells me to connect the zen. Very frustrating this. Anyone any ideas, would appreciate it very much.

I am having a very similar problem. In the device manager my zen is listed as an 'Unknown Device' I have tried disabling it and uninstalling the drivers then scanning for hardware changes. No luck. I have tried using the windows 7 device troubleshooter. No luck. I have looked through creatives list of drivers for windows 7 and my zen is not listed. Does anyone have any other ideas?

I have an 8gb zen. I did work with XP. I recall it having a couple problems about being recognized as the wrong type of device. On 7 its not even recognized. Are the drivers on the device comparable with Windows 7?

I just tried using my roommates xp machine and I get the same outcome as with my windows 7. It does not recognized the device. In the device manager it is under the USB tree and listed as an unknown device. Is this the end of the creative zens reign of power?

i don't think so...i think we have some zen drivers on our myzenchecker tool.

Scratch that. Apparently Zen V's support only reaches to XP and Vista. Since the Zen V is kinda considered an old model there is no known support yet for Zen V on windows 7.

Really...Is there any known work around. I tried using a friends computer transferring through their computer with a flash drive. Their comp. (XP) didn't recognize it either. Isn't this device supposed to have the drivers in it, or not need them? I could very well be mistaken. Thanks
