Also, I wanted to thank you for this site. I was one of those people who couldn't get their Windows to recognize the Zen, so i trouble shot and was completely satisfied. Thanks again.

Ah, Finally fixed it ran clean up several times rebooting each time now lists in the creative software WMP10. All I can think of is maybe the drive became so fragmented.
Thanks for the input and Great site!

I'm having some trouble with my Zen, or rather apparently the computer's ability to transfer certain video files to it.

For example, I go to the Zen Media Explorer, then Add Media. I select an AVI file and try to transfer. An error message then appears and says "Video File Information Extractor has encountered a problem and needs to close." It also does this when I normally locate a file and right click and try to send it to the Zen media library.

I can't find any way around this. It doesn't seem to do it with files other than AVI. In the past, when I first got the player, AVI files transferred fine, now they won't, even the same files.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

My problem isn't with converting the video. AVI files don't want to transfer, whenever I try to it says "Video File Information Extractor has encountered a problem and needs to close." It does this any way I try to transfer, through the Zen Media Explorer or otherwise.

this is because zen media explorer uses vfsvru.exe which has crashed. the crash is likely due to conflicts between xvid.dll and vfsvru.exe.
did you install any xvid codec?
if yes, pls uninstall the codec and try to transfer your videos again

I've removed what few codecs I can identify, but it doesn't seem to be helping. The message isn't really coming up any more, but the transfer doesn't actually start, it just says "Transferring File" and doesn't begin.

Again, not to be a bother (this thread seems to have gotten a bit off track), but I removed what codecs I could find and it still won't work, it gives the same error. Are there any other details you could give, or any alternate ways to fix it?

so removing codecs does work!
you are hanging there and it could be due to other problems
suggest you 'clean up ' your zen and if it still not ok, format zen

i was thinking that if the transfer worked on another computer, it'd be a problem with the computer, but if it didnt work as well, then it'd be a problem with the zen Cheesy

I won't be able to check another computer until tomorrow at the earliest, but my guess would be it's a computer issue, not the Zen.

With a Quick-Reply you can use bulletin board code and smileys as you would in a normal post, but much more conveniently.
